The latest from NBC News: The Trump administration is moving to eliminate the use of the word “virus” in the public health community and its guidance on how to diagnose and treat the disease.
A draft guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, released on Thursday, would also require health care providers to use the terms “HIV infection” and “HCCV infection” to describe the virus.
The guidance comes at a time when a number of states have banned the use or labeling of the virus and some are considering legislation to do the same.
