Wuhan, China—Wuhan Hospital in China has begun using a face shield to treat patients infected with coronavirus.
The hospital announced Friday that it will begin giving Ebola patients masks that include a face plate to help reduce the spread of the virus.
A face plate is a protective material that is attached to the face by thin straps and has a mask attached to it.
It can be worn on the nose, mouth, forehead, eyes, and ears to reduce the risk of spreading the virus and protect against other respiratory infections, according to the hospital.
Coronavirus is spread by coughing, sneezing, or touching an infected person.
The Wuhans hospital is one of China’s largest.
It has treated more than 50,000 patients.
The World Health Organization said in a news release on Friday that coronaviruses are now the second-leading cause of death for the World Health Organizations in 2015, following Ebola.
